Accessibility and Special Needs
Inclusive designs throughout our age ranges. Handicapped accessibility
means well designed spaces that allow everyone to participate to
the fullest of their abilities. It also means spaces that allow
handicapped students to play right along with their friends in ways
that are meaningful and challenging to the whole community. The
Americans with Disabilities Act asks us to make all of our public
spaces accessible for everyone, and I have worked personally with
officials from the State of Connecticut to develop designs that
make that goal a reality. As Connecticut seeks to expand guidelines
for handicapped access, they have singled out many of my designs
as exemplary solutions to the challenge of integrating handicap
students with their peers in play environments.
